Peter Bukiri Biography

Peter G. Bukiri is now an instructor with John E. Reid and Associates after a 32-year career with the Chicago Police Department. During his career, he authored a law, making it illegal to bring firearms into the City of Chicago without pre- registering the weapon. This law has led to the confiscation of thousands of illegal handguns destined for street gangs. Mr. Bukiri has a Masters in Sociology from Lewis University. He has lectured for The Department of Treasury, The Department of Justice, The Chicago Police Department, The Colorado Springs Police Department, The Indiana State Police, The Louisville Kentucky Police Department, The Scottsdale Arizona Police, and the Chicago Institute of Psychiatry.

Mr. Bukiri has spent 32 years working in aggressive units of the Chicago Police Department and a variety of Federal Task Forces. He has received a Presidential Citation, Cook County States Attorney Award, 13 Departments Commendations, 5 Unit Meritorious Citations, and over 350 Honorable mentions. He has worked as a patrol officer, a tactical street crimes investigator, an undercover narcotics investigator, undercover weapons trafficking investigator, and a Violent Crimes Detective in Homicide/Robbery. He has worked major investigations into street gangs, organized crimes, drug cartels, motorcycle gangs, professional burglars, and armed robbery gangs. He has worked undercover in narcotics cases, weapons trafficking offenses, as a decoy on Chicago?s mass transit decoy unit, and murder for hire investigations.

2 years in patrol. 6 years in a tactical unit.
6 years as a member of the Elite Special Operations Unit covering the entire city working on felony arrests, working as a mass transit decoy.
14 years as a Gang Crimes Specialist working major Street Gang investigations, murder extortion, and drug trafficking.
8 years as a violent crime detective working Homicide/Robbery.
During 25 years of his career Mr. Bukiri was a member of the Chicago Police Hostage/Barricade/Terrorist Team. He was a Hostage negotiator for 10 years.
Mr. Bukiri also spent 2 years working on a RICO case of a major motorcycle gang, which lead to 47 indictments, and 2 years working serial killer crime patterns during which he apprehended three serial killers.
